Jugo Verde is ideal for everyone, delicious, easy and ready in less than 10 minutes. This Mexican green juice is the perfect way to start the day with a lot of energy and nutrients.
Jugo Verde
Jugos Verdes are a healthy drink very popular in Mexico sold in mercados and restaurants alike. Going to the mercado on the weekends with my dad was a treat and something I looked forward to. He would always buy me a glass of vegetable juice from the stand where they make your juice to order. Mine always included carrots, celery, banana and orange juice. Oh so many beautiful memories around healthy drinks!
These days, I add more green veggies to my “jugos” since I have learnt to appreciate more combinations. Including the addition of a cactus paddle.
The best part is that you can use a regular blender and don’t need an expensive juicer. However, investing in a high-speed blender such as a Vitamix or Kitchen Ninja will make the job easier.
Both the Vitamix and the Ninja are high-powered enough that you can drop all your smoothie ingredients in at once, and never have large chunks of kale (or other hearty ingredients) infiltrating your green smoothies again.

Tips and Notes
Making your own green juice is easy and affordable. Here are some tips for getting started:
- When making jugo verde, it’s important to use fresh, organic ingredients if you can afford it. This ensures that you’re getting the most nutrients and minimizing your exposure to harmful chemicals and pesticides.
- I don’t strain the pulp as I like the consistency and texture the little seeds give to the drink. However, you’re more than welcome to do so by passing it thru a fine mesh strainer.
- For best taste: Drink this green juice immediately after juicing, as the nutrients can begin to degrade over time. If you need to store your juice, be sure to do so in an airtight container in the refrigerator..
- Variations: you can add chia seeds, add other types of berries, sweeten with stevia, agave nectar, honey or monk fruit instead. The possibilities are endless!
How to Store
- Fridge: Jugo Verde should be stored in an airtight container, such as a glass jar or plastic bottle, and refrigerated immediately after it is made. The container should be tightly sealed to prevent air from entering, which can cause the juice to spoil more quickly.
- Freezer: Use a freezer-safe container like a plastic jug. It’s important to leave some space at the top of the container as the juice will expand when it freezes.
- Defrosting: When you’re ready to use the frozen drink, simply remove it from the freezer and let it thaw in the fridge overnight. Alternatively, you can also thaw it at room temperature for a few hours.
