Hibiscus Margarita

Ingredients

Hibiscus Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 4 hibiscus tea bags (or 1 cup dried hibiscus dried flowers (Jamaica))

To Make the Cocktail

  • ½ cup ice cubes
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 2 ounce hibiscus syrup
  • 2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • Garnish with hibiscus flower or lime cut in wheels optional

Instructions

To Make the Hibiscus Syrup

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar and bring to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat.
  • Add 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers or 4 hibiscus tea bags to the hot water and let steep for 10 minutes.
  • Strain the flowers or remove the tea bags, and let the syrup cool. It will keep for up to 1 week in the refrigerator.

To Make the Cocktail

  • Add the 1 cup ice to a cocktail shaker and then add the 4 oz tequila, 2 oz hibiscus syrup, 1 oz lime juice and 1 oz triple sec.
  • Cover and shake well for about 5 seconds.
  • Pour the drink, including the ice, into a margarita or cocktail glass.
