A delicious Licuados De Plátano (Banana Smoothie) to start your day off on the right foot!  Made with old fashioned oats, Greek yogurt and Bananas. This healthy breakfast is a great recipe to keep handy when you want something quick and nutritious.

Licuados are very popular in Mexico and can be found all over town but specially in “El Centro” (City Center) where the mornings are busy with people buying the meats and vegetables for the day. Other popular drinks that you can find in the same spot are agua frescas like Agua De Piña and Agua De Pepino.

I like to add oatmeal to keep us feeling full longer plus it’s a great way to get additional fiber. Adding nonfat plain Greek yogurt is optional but it adds a high dose of protein! Something to keep in mind.

Ingredients

Bananas with milk go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. So let’s make them into a smoothie! You don’t need much, just pick and choose the ingredients you have at home.

  • A banana fresh or frozen
  • Cold milk: use your preferred milk. Can be with dairy or plant based milk.
  • Cinnamon plus more to garnish
  • Vanilla extract
  • Old-fashioned oats
  • Nonfat plain Greek yogurt optional (my favorite brand is from Trader Joes due to the mild flavor). This is the perfect way to add protein and creaminess to your smoothie.
  • Natural Sweetener or honey.
  • Ice optional

The beauty of making this smoothie is that you can substitute any fruit you may have in hand. The key is you to add fruit and oatmeal for a fiber loaded breakfast!

Variation: Add berries, mango, pineapple, and peaches since they are excellent choices to complement the flavor of bananas.

Serving Suggestions

Enjoy by itself or with a side of Coyotas, Coricos or something for hearty like Machaca Con Huevos. This will keep you full ALL DAY LONG! 🙂

This is the best smoothie! It is packed with flavor and the addition of the oatmeal adds a nice texture, yet still creamy, and another subtle underlying taste profile to the drink.
