The Best Fresas Con Crema

Portrait of Ana Frias

Y’all, this is hands-down the best Fresas Con Crema you’ll ever have!

It’s rich, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet, packed with fresh strawberries and topped with a cloud of whipped cream. This classic Mexican dessert is a favorite at antojitos spots and ice cream shops—and now, it’s about to be your new favorite too!

Mexicans have a serious love for creamy desserts, and this one fits right in with my other favorites like Arroz Con Leche, Platanos Con Crema (Mexican Bananas and Cream), Tres Leches cake, Flan, and Gelatina De Mosaico. Trust me, once you see how easy it is to make, you’ll be hooked!

It’s incredibly easy to make, requires no baking (so you can skip the oven on hot days), and is perfect for sharing—everyone will be asking for seconds!

🩷 xoxo, Ana

Ingredients & Substitutions

This recipe is for fresas con crema without sour cream. Most recipes call for it but I think there are better alternatives. The main flavors comes from the media crema (Mexican table cream) and condensed milk so there is no need for sour cream.

  • Fresh strawberries
  • 1 can media crema (substitute with Mexican crema or evaporated milk)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup plain nonfat greek yogurt, regular plain yogurt or Crème fraîche.
  • Vanilla extract

Serving suggestions

This dessert is perfect after a Mexican meal since it’s light and fresh! If you want to make it more fun here are a few ideas you can do to it.

  • Add granola.
  • Add chia seeds.
  • Add other fruits to it like raspberries, blueberries, chopped peaches or bananas.
  • Top with a dollop of whipped cream.
  • Add your favorite nuts.
  • Make paletas!

Tips and Notes

  • Keep everything cold! Place the cans & strawberries in the fridge so that they’re cold before making the recipe.
  • Picking strawberries: The best strawberries have a bright red color, a natural shine and fresh looking green caps. Keep your berries in the fridge and wash them just before serving.

Variations

  • Make the fresas con crema pink! You can add a few drops of pink artificial food coloring to your crema or add a few strawberries prior to blending.
  • Instead of the Greek yogurt, replace with cream cheese. The texture will be a little bit more dense but sometimes that’s desired for this recipe. So good!

How to Store

  • Strawberries: Store washed and sliced strawberries in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. If they release too much juice, drain any excess liquid before serving.
  • Cream Mixture: Keep the sweetened cream in a separate airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Give it a quick stir before using.
  • Assembled Dessert: If already mixed, enjoy within 24 hours. The strawberries will soften and release juice, making the cream thinner over time.
  • For the best taste and texture, assemble just before serving!

These fresas con crema are just like the ones I grew up eating in Mexico! They used to sell them in cartoon boxes like old milk boxes. Can’t wait to make it again!
