Ana’s Recipe Tips
- Let it sit. The flavors in this salsa get better and better as it sits. I highly recommend making it at least 30 minutes before serving. (It will last for a week in the fridge.)
- Use fresh lemon juice and fresh garlic. Since the salsa is so simple, it’s better to use fresh ingredients for better taste.
- Adjust the spice level. Control the heat by adding adding half of the red crush peppers, taste then add more according to how spicy you like it.
- How To Store:
- Fridge: Store in refrigerator in an airtight container or glass jar for up to 2 weeks. Stir well before using again
- Freezer: Freezing salsa is easier than you think! It’s the perfect way to preserve the fresh taste. Plus, you can enjoy it for up to 4 months

This came out so delicious!!
Great to hear this Monet! Thanks for the review 🙂 xoxo, Ana
Easy Excellent!
Best home made salsa I’ve come across. I cut the red chili flakes amount in half, only because I like a more mild salsa. Also I add a teaspoon of honey to give it slight sweet taste on the palet. I also add a full hand of finely chopped cherry tomatoes to bring up the bulk a bit. Can’t go wrong with this recipe.
I have been craving this style of salsa since I moved from Arizona years ago and finally found one to help with my craving! I added a little more crushed pepper because I wanted it super spicy. SERIOUSLY easy and delicious to make! Thank you!!
This sounds good and I’ll try it tomorrow but is 2 tablespoons of chili flakes to 8 ounces of tomato sauce correct? Sounds like fiery overkill and I like heat.
Hi Sandra! I used 2 tablespoons (not packed) and it has a kick but not too bad actually. Start with one if you like and go from there. My hubby that doesn’t eat too spicy was okay with the amount of heat.
Enjoy!
I don’t know how I feel about salsa without cilantro but I trust your judgement so I’ll give this one a try.
Hehe I hear you about missing the cilantro! It’s one of my staple ingredients but in this case, it does work! Give it a try and let me know 🙂
My husband loves this salsa!!! It reminds him if a tex-mex salsa he gets at a restaurant. So good and easy!
Thanks so much Monica!
