How Do I Get Avocados To Last?

The key to getting ripe avocados so they last it’s easy and it works!. First buy hard to the touch, bright green avocados and allow them to ripen on the counter. Once they are black, soft to the touch (NOT squishy) store them in the fridge. Here is where they will last for quite a few days!

If you buy them already ripe, just store them in the fridge right away and they should last a few more days.

Did you know you can freeze avocados?

I like to buy them on they go on sale and freeze them! Once they’re ripe, cut in them in halves or chunks (and even mashed or puréed), add some lemon or lime juice and seal the avocado in a freezer bag. Remove as much as air as you can.

They will keep in the freezer for 4–6 months. This way you can make this avocado salsa recipe often!

Serving Suggestions

Serve this salsa de aguacate as a refreshing accompaniment to grilled meats such as chicken, steak, or fish. The creamy avocado and tomatillo provide a fresh contrast to the smoky and savory notes of the grilled meats. I also love to just dip my tortilla chips and enjoy as is!

This recipe was light and delicious and the perfect pairing with the carne asada I made for dinner tonight. I had leftovers so we are eating it with chips while we watch the game. This recipe is definitely a keeper!
