Easy recipe for Salsa De Aguacate (Avocado Salsa)! All you need is 5 minutes to whip up this creamy, healthy & delish salsa!
Let’s not confuse this recipe for Guacamole! This is an actual Mexican salsa with layers of flavors of tomatillo, jalapeño, serrano peppers, cilantro and our hero; ripe avocados.
Salsas de Aguacate go perfect with all kinds of dishes like tacos or just for dipping your tortilla chips in! There are different versions of Salsa De Aguacate and today we’ll be making it with a raw salsa verde as the base and adding avocado to it.
The other version is making a cooked salsa verde then adding the avocado at the end and pureeing it well. In fact, I’ll be adding those recipes to this post soon enough! Stand by ?
Ingredients
- 1 pound tomatillos – if you can’t find them fresh, you can use canned tomatillos as a substitute. They’re found in your latin section in grocery stores.
- 2 jalapeños
- 3 serrano pepper – Using two kinds of peppers gives us additional layers of flavors. If you don’t like
- ¼ cup onion
- 1 small garlic
- 1 small bunch cilantro
- salt & pepper
- 2 avocados, small to medium
- ¾ teaspoon salt
How To Make Salsa De Aguacate
- In a blender or processor, add the tomatillos, jalapeños, serrano peppers, onion, garlic clove and salt. Give it a quick blend.
- Then add the cilantro and puree until well blended. I admit that I typically add more cilantro than the recipe calls for because, well, I’m a big fan of it!
- Add the avocado and puree until smooth. Taste for salt and add more if needed according to taste.
How Do I Get The Aguacates (Avocados) To Last?
The key to getting ripe avocados so they last it’s easy and it works!. First buy hard to the touch, bright green avocados and allow them to ripen on the counter. Once they are black, soft to the touch (NOT squishy) store them in the fridge. Here is where they will last for quite a few days!
If you buy them already ripe, just store them in the fridge right away and they should last a few more days.
Did you know you can freeze avocados?
I like to buy them on they go on sale and freeze them! Once they’re ripe, cut in them in halves or chunks (and even mashed or puréed), add some lemon or lime juice and seal the avocado in a freezer bag. Remove as much as air as you can.
They will keep in the freezer for 4–6 months. This way you can make this avocado salsa recipe often!
